Three Become Two

Her brother lay on his back

Clutching his side

Licking his mouth

Like he’d eaten the best meal ever.

The baby climbed

Off her sister’s lap

Crawled to his side and

Placed her head on his tummy.

Her eyes wide

Her head rising and falling

Less and less

Until it stopped

Her older sister rubbed her back

She had tasted the smell

Of rain on her lips

Before he slipped away

Three had become two

The clouds opened and unleashed a downpour
